devices to remotely control camera shutters for remote photography.

:: how does it work? ::

Click for higher resolution... The gentled weighs 4g.
The 200mm wire goes to a 3pin servo connector.

gentled takes in a trigger and changes it into a signal to press the shutter of the camera.

Usually camera remote controls only allow control over a short distance with a switch, gentled can be triggered directly from:

  • A RC Remote control system, normally used for model cars, planes, or helicopters,
  • Any electric switch you choose, or a relay etc.,
  • Some units when activated just trigger the camera repeatedly, called an intervalometer.

It can be used to control camera shutters by:

  • Infra-red signal, the same way your TV Remote control works,
  • A cable that connects to the camera via a socket on the camera,
  • Various other methods using the USB connector for some Nikon, Ricoh and Canon cameras.

gentled - on a balloon and a KAP Rig, it's only 4grams!
Image copyright Brooks Leffler

You don't need to use a kite to be interested in aerial photography. gentled is also at home on balloons, both large and small. You can see the camera in it's mounting rig below the balloon in the picture.

The second image shows Brooks Leffler's ultra-light Pentax Optio S4 rig, which has been simplified by using the gentled. This close-up shows that because you don't need the full range of the device in these applications the LED can be mounted at right angles to the sensor on the camera, making mounting easier.

In fact even at right angles (like here) the usable range is still about 100mm. You can also read about my RIG04, which uses the prototype of the gentled.

Model RC planes, and Helicopters too, benefit from the ruggedness, simplicity, and lightweight gentled.

Read on to discover the gentled.
