products that provide video switching and telemetry!
specially designed for applications where weight is at a premium
gentvu
altiOSD, a miniature altimeter and data capture device. allowing the
collection and remote display of height, pressure, 3 battery voltages, event counter, and optionally temperature,
speed & direction with the addition of external sensors.
- Allows data (metric or imperial) to be viewed as a overlay on an existing
video signal (OSD), or as a video signal on it's own.
- Automatic switching between video OSD, and video generation mode.
- Altimeter resolution 1ft / 1m
- Live and recorded display of supply voltage, and two other voltages from 0
to 18V with 20mV resolution.
- Optional modules can be added for measurement of speed, direction,
and temperature.
- Optional Logger module allows recording of data, from one per second to
once per hour,
and when an event is recorded.
- Logger is like a memory card allowing flexibility in the field and data
download to a PC, Mac or Linux later.
- Free PC software allows easy download and formatting of data for Excel,
csv, or human readable form.
- Accepts input voltages from 3V to 9V, covering all the popular NiMH and
LiIon voltages. Unit shuts down when voltage drops below 2.4V, Current draw is
44mA at 3.6V, 32mA at 4.8V and 20mA at 7.2V.
- Size 2" x 1.1" x .45" (51x28x11 mm)
- Weight 0.36oz (10.5 grams).
- Firmware upgradeable.
- Configuration set and stored in non-volatile memory using menus viewed on
a TV screen.
 The
basic unit can display height pressure and battery voltage superimposed on a standard
525NTSC or 625PAL video signal, like the display on the left.
With the addition of extra wiring and sensors it can be expanded into a
complete telemetry system like the example on the right

 If
there is no video signal present the unit automatically switches to
"generate" mode and telemetry is still available to view, against a
black background.
The unit can be configured to generate this signal in 525 line
or 625 line format.
All this data can be "Logged" and reviewed later!
For the basic operation all you
need is a power supply between 3 and 9 volts, and 'T' the video output into the
existing video circuit, as shown on the right. The output will automatically be added to the video (OSD
mode). If you have no video source, the unit automatically generates it's own
video signal, preset to either 525 or 625 line standard.
The video output must be properly terminated in 75ohms, if not the OSD
picture will appear as ghosts, and the generated picture will not work at all. A
100ohm
resistor across the output will ensure the correct video voltages.
The unit automatically measures
it's own battery voltage, but 2 additional DC voltages can be monitored by
simply connecting them to the high impedance inputs (37Kohm) as shown here.
Voltages up to 18V can be recorded, with a resolution of 20mV. These can be
used for additional batteries, or for any other measurement device that
generates a voltage as an output.
Switches can be added as shown
here.
CTR controls a counter which can count from 1 to 255
"events". Typically this could be used to count the number of
photographs taken by a camera.
SW is used to reset the altimeter and set up the unit configuration. It does
the same as the white button in the middle of the board, however it may be more
convenient to connect a remote switch to this pin.
Both these inputs can be controlled via electronic switches like gentled
FOCUS and gentled
SWITCH. The output from FOCUS or SWITCH can simply be connected in parallel.
Further expansion of the unit, including the Data Logger, is detailed in the accessory
page...
